This magical award winning Aboriginal tour with Aboriginal Elder – Wilfred (Willie) Gordon, listed as one of Australia’s Ultimate-Must-Do-Experiences.

Make your way to Cairns General Aviation Airport for your 45 minute flight with Hinterland Aviation to Cooktown. Enjoy the spectacular views as you fly along the coastline between Cairns and Cooktown taking in spectacular views of Cairns Northern Beaches, Port Douglas, Daintree Cape Tribulation and  World

Heritage rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

On arrival at Cooktown you will be met by Guurrbi Tours and driven to the outskirts of Hope Vale indigenous community for the Rainbow Serpent Tour with Nugal-warra Elder, Willie Gordon.  Willie, the traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes you to the Nugal rock art sites, set in stunning countryside high in the hills above Hope Vale. You’ll visit six sites, including the Reconciliation Cave and an ancestral Birthing Site, where Willie shares the stories behind the art – stories which can only be told by Elders of the Nugal clan - and explains how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people.

With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives you an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and spirituality, and has you thinking about your own relationship with the land and how the lores of his people can apply to us all. The tour includes an estimated 30-minute bush walk on generally easy terrain. Water is provided, and cameras welcome.

Return to Cooktown at 1.15pm where you will be taken to the Nature Power House Museum for a delightful lunch at the Verandas Café. Browse through Nature Lover's bookstore, local artworks and souvenirs.

Free time to explore Cooktown, and get a feel for the early explorers like Captain James Cook and step back in time as this was a thriving town for the Gold Rush Days, before being collected by Adventure North Australia for the return journey to Cairns or Port Douglas along the inland road, The Mulligan Highway, travelling through a diverse landscape of cattle stations and the Palmer River Gold mine region, which is the Outback of Far North Queensland,  Stop for dinner (at your own expense) at the authentic Queenslander pub in the old mining town of Mount Molloy. Then we make our way back to Cairns and as you get closer to the Cairns and come over the Mac Alister Range the scenery once again  transforms from the dry outback country to lush Rainforest and Mountains which surround Cairns.  Your tour comes to a completion as you are taken to your accommodation in Cairns or Port Douglas.
